Pelikan Ink of the Year 2026 Pyrite: a gold-grey with metallic shine

Pelikan has unveiled Pyrite, its Edelstein Ink of the Year for 2026: a gold-grey shade with a deep, glowing metallic sheen, inspired by the mineral pyrite. According to the manufacturer's site, the ink should produce a striking, shimmering look on paper.

The brand describes a velvety texture and a soft writing feel that should suit Pelikan nibs. Pelikan also points to the special formula used across the whole Edelstein collection, which is meant to make writing even smoother and to care for the nib. Pyrite is said to have a grounding effect and is regarded as a talisman for mental clarity and ambition. As with every year's ink, Pyrite is a limited edition and is only available during calendar year 2026. The page does not mention a cartridge version, and it does not list the bottle size or the price. The other colours in the collection come in 50 ml glass bottles.

Looking at the series as a whole is interesting. In 2022 it was Apatite, a blue-turquoise; 2023 brought Rose Quartz in a rosé tone; 2024 was Golden Lapis, a blue with golden shimmer elements (the bottle should be shaken before use); and 2025 was Apricot Agate, a soft orange. Pyrite is a much more restrained, metallic tone.

With shimmering inks it is worth thinking about the nib and the paper. Smooth paper that absorbs little ink usually lets the metal particles show up best. If you collect, do not wait too long on a limited annual ink.
